Jets GM Mike Maccagnan ‘very open’ to trading down in NFL draft

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan sounded hopeful a few weeks ago that teams would get so desperate to draft one of the top quarterbacks this year that he could land a windfall in trade for the third overall pick.china wholesale nfl jerseys

With one month to go until the NFL draft begins, it sounds like that hope is still part of his plan.

Maccagnan said the Jets are “very open to potentially moving back from 3” when he met with reporters on Monday afternoon at the Arizona Biltmore hotel, site of the NFL owners meetings. He said, “you can probably rule out” the Jets trading up to one of the nfl jersey china wholesale top two picks, but dropping a few spots is definitely an option.

“We’d definitely be interested if another team came with an offer that we felt was worthy of moving out of the spot,” Maccagnan said. “We would definitely consider that. I’m not going to say we’re committed to doing that, but we’d definitely be very intrigued by that.”china nfl jerseys wholesalecut

There is one complicating factor, though. The Jets still need an edge rusher after linebacker Anthony Barr backed out of an agreement to sign with the Jets early in free agency. And it just so happens that there could be several top edge rushers available at 3, especially if the Cardinals take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray at No. 1.

Could the Jets really pass on someone like Ohio State’s Nick Bosa or Kentucky’s Josh Allen just to pick up some extra draft picks, especially after losing out on Barr? It’s hard to imagine, but Maccagnan insisted Barr’s late reversal didn’t really change the Jets’ draft plans at all.nfl jersey wholesale china

“I don’t necessarily think anything we did in free agency changed dramatically how we’re going to focus on the draft,” Maccagnan said. “I think if we had done something in free agency where we got an edge rusher, you can never have enough edge rushers per se. But I don’t think it impacts us too much with the third pick.”

Depending on how far the Jets were to drop in the first round, they actually could still find an edge rusher in what most scouts believe is a very deep crop. Players like Michigan’s Rashan Gary, Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat or Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell could all be available later. And if the Jets could grab one of them and pick up extra selections — something Maccagnan would love to do since he currently holds only six picks and no second-rounder — that might be the way to go.authentic nfl jerseys china wholesale

So far, though, it doesn’t sound like anything is close. But Maccagnan made it clear that teams are definitely talking to him about deals.china nfl jersey wholesale

“We’ve definitely had conversations,” he said. “People have reached out, put out feelers. Nobody is actively trying to do anything at this point in time. But you have conversations and put out feelers, just like how they’re putting out feelers to us.”nfl china jerseys wholesale
